Support the Pearl

With a repertory spanning over 2,500 years and an impact that reaches over 30,000 artists and audience members annually, The Pearl presents an incredible breadth of theatre—plays that continually challenge us, enlighten us, and spark debate.

By making a donation to The Pearl, you will be supporting our artistic programming on stage, as well as our programs designed to enrich the experience of the theatre and deepen our audience’s relationship with our artists.

Mainstage Season
Since our founding in 1984, The Pearl has developed and presented over 125 plays featuring a repertoire that includes the poetic depths of Aeschylus and the endless riches of Shakespeare; to the stark realism of Ibsen and the poignant lyricism of Tennessee Williams—those plays that speak to the soul, explain the human condition, and remain profoundly relevant, even in these unpredictable times.

The Pearl’s flagship arts-in-education initiative is Classics in the Classroom, which provides New York City High School students throughout the five boroughs with sequential opportunities to study classic works, write their own scenes, perform them for peers, and find their artistic voice.

Local English teacher Lydie Kane says:

There is nothing comparable to this program anywhere and it is our responsibility to protect its integrity and ensure that generation after generation of students can enjoy this opportunity.

The Pearl provides year-round administrative and production internships. An internship at The Pearl enables students to learn about the business of theatre and obtain “real world” experience in an environment that nurtures, excites, and challenges them. Whether they are an aspiring stage manager, actor, or arts administrator, The Pearl’s internship program will provide these young professionals with the essential tools for a great career.

Audience Opportunities

To bring our audiences more fully into the world of each playwright and to offer a full-body theatrical experience, The Pearl provides audiences of all ages with free public programming, including Tuesday Talks, an ongoing lecture series; artist-audience talkbacks; and full-length study guides for each production called Playgoer’s Supplements available at the theatre and by clicking here.

Artistic Development
The Pearl is the only theatre in New York City with a Resident Company fully comprised of Actors’ Equity members, in the tradition of the finest ensembles of our theatrical heritage. The Pearl is committed to providing our actors with opportunities, for artistic growth and development—celebrating their strengths and challenging them to take artistic risks. They work together, train together, and grow together through their art—few companies in the United States can boast such a tightly knit artistic community devoted to a high degree of excellence.

The impact of The Pearl’s training on emerging and mid-career actors can best be explained through the words of Resident Actor Dan Daily:

No where else do you get to be challenged and nurtured in every experience. Being a part of The Pearl’s Resident Acting Company has allowed me extensive freedom of expression in an environment that is supportive and exciting to the max.
